In addition, this course also addresses the use of ultrasound equipment to assist with peripheral IV insertion.
Audience:
PDRE's Ultrasound (U/S) Guided Peripheral Intravenous (IV) Insertion Course is for healthcare providers who may be required to perform IV therapy and blood withdrawals in the healthcare settings. These include personnel who will need the necessary knowledge, skills, and ability to begin, maintain, and perform to the highest standard of care infusion of intravenous fluids and withdraw of blood such as physicians, nurses (licensed vocational nurses LVNs, licensed practical nurses LPNs, registered nurses, nurse practitioners NPs), certified phlebotomy technicians, emergency medical technicians EMTs, paramedics and other designated healthcare providers. Classroom-based works well for learners who prefer group interaction and instructor feedback while learning important concepts and psychomotor skills for IV therapy and blood withdrawal on first-rate mannikins and live peers, volunteers or designated proxies for the finger sticks, IV insertions and/or blood draws
Co-branded with the Palm Desert Resuscitation Education LLC (PDRE) and Replenish 360 A Division of PDRE LLC
Course uses learning stations for practice of essential skills and possible simulated clinical scenarios that encourage active participation and student/instructor feedback for a more comprehensive learning, positive, and non-discriminatory environment
Hands-on class format reinforces psychomotor skills proficiency for fine motor technique evaluation and confidence for future patient performance of finger sticks, IV therapy and blood withdrawals

IV Therapy Certification course for Registered Nurses (RNs) must be compliant with the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) requirements.
Students understand that live IV insertions will be performed with designated peers, volunteers or a delegated proxy if applicable to fulfill the requirements of the course and official certification.
Comprehensive course didactics including safety measures, complications, and adverse reactions with psychomotor skills evaluation and practice will give the students the confidence for the live venipunctures and/or blood withdrawal as needed.
You are welcome to bring your own proxy who must be at least 18 years or older, in great health and fitness, and must sign a mandatory consent and waiver of liability signed prior to being practiced on.
If a student has an acute or chronic medical condition that prevents him or her from participating (e.g., such as pregnancy, predisposing vasovagal response, etc.), a medical release form needs to be signed by his or her personal doctor in order to partake in the live psychomotor skills evaluation and assessment portions of the course.
Students are required to attend the full classroom time in order to be certified. Any missed contact hours for the course needs to be made-up or remediated for full course completion and certification at the California State level per the BRN guidelines and recommendations.
Student Attire must include medical scrubs and shoes that are closed toes in addition to personal protective equipment (PPE), which will be provided during the course as a universal precaution.
